Drama - Acting

With our international exchanges, the multicultural actors and the Brussels metropolis as a cherry on the cake, our training generates a window on the world.

at a glance bachelor master Subjects and Admission test Alumni

At the RITCS, you are more than an actor simply performing. You are a creating actor! Departing from the joy, reflection and insight, you make proposals on the floor, experiment and make theater. As a player you are part of the creation process and try to keep it as lively and relevant as possible. In daily training and specific workshops you work on your material: your voice and your body. Together with our teachers, mentors and student colleagues, you will discover what makes you unique, develop your strengths and be encouraged to push your limits. We study traditions, but in this program there are no strict rules about genres or methods.

In addition to theoretical knowledge, we share many best practices from professional creators and actors active in today's international performing arts landscape. During the many practical exercises you will encounter different views and opinions that will challenge, enrich and make you stronger as a player. In addition to organized or collective making processes, each year you will also have space to create your own solo performance or show. Through our European exchanges and internships you will gain insight into different playing styles and build a versatile and international portfolio.

If this biotope appeals to you, we invite you to explore further. Work with your fellow students on the future forms of theater and tell the current and important stories of today.

All our classes are in Dutch.

Bachelor

The Bachelor’s programme in Acting (3 years) focuses on the development of versatile and intelligent actors and performers who are able to internalise the techniques of acting in a personal way. Each year consists of three acting workshops lasting 8 to 10 weeks, each led by a different director. An acting assignment may result in one cohesive performance moment, but it can also consist of several 'exercises,' each with a specific pedagogical aim (for example, working on specific scenes or forms of verbal expression). During such a workshop, you will receive voice and body training every morning. A year mentor will guide each student’s journey.

In addition, you will receive a broad and solid intellectual and historical education alongside students from the directing track, covering cultural history, art history, politics, and philosophy. You will also become acquainted with the history and theories of theatre, performance, and other art forms (theatre history, dramaturgy, text analysis, performance analysis).

Master

The Master’s programme in Drama consists of one academic year or 60 ECTS credits. You can choose between the specialisations in Acting or Directing & Writing. The master’s programme focuses on deepening your knowledge and skills. As a master’s student, you know what you want—you can articulate what you are looking for. The programme serves as a test of autonomy and versatility: you demonstrate your ability as a theatre maker and performer to make informed and intelligent choices, and you can create the right context for your own work. There is close collaboration with students from the Stage Techniques track.

The Directing & Writing specialisation offers a Dutch or English language pathway, while the Acting specialisation is available only in Dutch.

The Master’s in Drama - Acting is dedicated to the refinement of your craft as a performer. The programme consists of three fully-fledged performance projects in which you, as a professional and inquisitive performer, will be challenged within different theatrical universes for each project. The end result is a complete production with an accompanying performance series (and possibly a tour). Each project is directed by a director or performer with a distinct vision of the acting craft.
