Within the Audiovisual Arts you can specialize in editing, the stage in storytelling where image, sound, emotion, structure, pace, rhythm, and music come together as one cohesive whole.

At a glance bachelor master Subjects and Admission test

During your training as an editor, the emphasis is on storytelling and the relationship between you and the director. You will deal creatively and self-consciously with the narrative and dramatic aspect in the story and make suggestions in terms of structure, tempo, rhythm, emotion, music and sound design. You will master the editing techniques necessary within the whole of audiovisual post-production. You are communicative and diplomatic because throughout your training you will work with directors in the practice of fiction, reportage and documentary. Gradually you will develop your own creative style.

All our classes are in Dutch.

Bachelor

editing

During the first year of the bachelor's program, as an editing student, you will explore the fundamental concepts of audiovisual storytelling alongside students in writing, directing, production, cinematography, and sound design. You'll be immersed in a rich environment of Art, Culture, and Film History, receive your first lessons in screenwriting, directing, and production, and participate in joint practical sessions on fiction and reporting. This is where the groundwork is laid for future collaborations, with each student becoming increasingly specialised in their own discipline. There are also specific subjects such as Editing Techniques and Forms of Editing. At the end of the first year, you will present a personal, inspired piece of work.

From the second year onwards, the editing track focuses on storytelling within fiction and real-life narratives. Film and documentary analysis play a key role. The power of music in audiovisual storytelling is explored, and you will gain a basic understanding of visual effects and colour grading, ensuring they are used effectively in post-production.

Master

With your personal artistic style and vision, you shape the editing of a film during the master's program, in collaboration with a director.
