Where are the boundaries between essay documentary and visual experimentation when it comes to first-person cinema narratives? From what point does a documentary that extensively explores the imaginary world and examines the human psyche become essentially experimental cinema?

Georgia Panagou explores these questions in her feature film Minimum Distances, in which she explores the limits of the cinematic apparatus. The film is about her intimate 17-year journey across Europe. The migration history of the women in her family and her personal archives, form the starting point. During this visceral journey through time, landscapes and loved ones, she meditates on her experiences of a nomadic life and a fragmented reality.

Georgia shares her thoughts, as a film editor and maker, around the methods of experimentation with images she uses to find new ways of expression.

Georgia Panagou is a visual artist born in Athens and has lived in Paris since 2013. She worked for ten years as a documentary film editor in Barcelona. She is currently making Minimum Distances as a student of the Art Research Masters 'Réalisation cinématographique' and 'Ecologie des arts et des médias' at Paris 8 Vincennes-Saint-Denis University.
